I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT ON ALL PEOPLE – 8.15.2021
I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT ON ALL PEOPLE
Jesus declares that one of several aspects of his mission is to preach good news to the poor.
On the day of Pentecost, Peter applies Joel’s prophecy to the church’s mission: God’s Spirit empowers us to speak for God like the prophets of old
What are God’s expectations of you?
(Acts 2:17-18)
“‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
Luke 4:16-30 recounts the opening scene of Jesus’ public ministry in Luke’s Gospel.
Luke 4:18 -19
…18“The Spirit of the Lord is on upon Me, because He has anointed Me (chosen by God) to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim liberty (pardon, forgiveness) to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind (physically and spiritually), to release the oppressed (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy and from sin), 19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord!
2. WHAT IS GOD’S MANDATE FOR YOU
Mark 16:15-20 NKJV
15 And He said to them, “Go!, into all the world (WE SURE HAVE THIS IN NJ) and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Christ Ascends to God’s Right Hand
19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.
May we continue to carry on the mission of bringing the good news about God’s kingdom and caring for people’s needs.
